What is stress management - Stress management is comes from synonyms: coping/ resilience/stress management is a collective term for methods and coping strategies to reduce or eliminate mentally and physically stressful stress.

We can define stress itself as a physical and mental state of tension that can have many causes.

What stressors or stimuli are there?

Stressors (also: stress factors) are all internal and external stimuli that cause stress and thus cause the affected person to react.

This is illustrated very nicely in Lazarus' stress model, for example. This model, which we also use in our stress management training, shows that stressful situations are complex interaction processes.

In contrast to earlier stress theories, Lazarus assumed that it was not the (objective) nature of the stimuli or stressors that was important for the reaction, but rather the (subjective) evaluation by the person concerned.

People can be very differently susceptible to a certain stressor: what means stress for one person affected is not yet perceived as stress by another. The model is transactional, since an evaluation process is interposed between the stressor and the stress reaction.
